Davidoff Limited Edition: Davidoff 702

This year's Davidoff Limited Edition is here.  It's called the Davidoff <<702>> Toro Especial.  In reality it is more like a Churchill format, (6.5" x 50), packaged in gorgeous dome-shaped boxes of 10 cigars for $260 plus applicable taxes.

The <<702>> is a reference to the cigar's wrapper.  It's a hybrid of 3 different Cuban seeds, and grown in Ecuador.  The filler and binder tobaccos are 100% Dominican, and 80% of the filler is ligero from the top of the plant.  Only 125,000 cigars were made for world wide distribution.  The cigars sold out within 20 minutes at this year's launch dinner at Bayard's.  Davidoff brand manager Danielle Hawthorne told CW by e-mail "The Bayard’s event was the grand kick-off for the launch and grand it was! Henke Kelner, our world renowned Master Blender, was flown in from our factory in the DR for the evening. He spoke about the long and patient development of the very special hybrid “702” seed used to produce this incredible wrapper and happily signed autographs throughout the evening" (go to

"To me," says Davidoff Store Manager, Michael Herklots,  "they're ready to be smoked now.  That's not to say that these cigars won't change and develop positively over time in a humidor, I think they will,  but they don't NEED time.  They're rich full bodied cigars, with hearty flavors of smoked meat, earth, dark cherry and rich tobacco... very good and very unique! Great balance, and welcoming aroma."
